Welcome to the Library at Milestone
At Milestone we have high aspirations for all our students to achieve their full potential. The new library at the school was refurbished and launched in October 2021 and plays a vital part in the pupils’ learning as we strive to instil a love of stories and reading.
Classes visit the library in timetabled sessions and either sit with teachers, TAs or the librarian and read, or sit in a group and listen to a sensory story. Children look forward to the library sessions and seeing what new stories are waiting for them each week. Their enjoyment of the literature and the space is evident in their enthusiasm and positive behaviours when spending time in the library. It is also a popular and quiet place for individuals to access with their teacher or teaching assistant, offering an alternative space for reflection.
Stefan, our dedicated librarian, is on hand to help with selecting books and facilitate research topics. He also goes to classes to read and runs an individual reading programme for some pupils identified as needing extra help.
Our library is extremely well-resourced, ranging from early years and sensory books right up to teenage fiction. It holds a rich diversity of books, which we feel reflects the wonderfully diverse community here at Milestone. Care is taken to ensure that books are relevant to students and their families, with books representing different cultures, family structures, religions and languages; we endeavour to ensure that everyone is represented.
