In April, a delegation of Milestone staff, students and Friends of Milestone, were invited to Sundridge Golf Club, to be presented with the new bus. A charity golf event provided a backdrop to the day, and the club members and professionals came out to watch the presentation of the new minibus and meet the students along with each of the sponsors.
Following the unfortunate theft of the minibus previously donated by the Friends of Milestone, the school’s supporter group were determined to find a way to replace it. The Friends of Milestone work hard to run fundraising events and the school received some generous donations from the local Freemasons. The Friends then applied to the Variety Club in the hope that they might support further with the cost of a new bus. After a thorough application process and an assessment visit from a representative of the Variety Club, The Friends were successful in securing the final support they needed. The Variety Club sourced sponsors for the bus in the form of individuals linked to Sundridge Golf Club as well as the golf club itself.
Sarah Goosani, Principal at Leigh Academy Milestone said “ We are so grateful to The Friends of Milestone for their tenacity in the pursuit of acquiring a new minibus for our school. I want to thank the Variety Club, Sundridge Golf Club, the Freemasons and those generous individual sponsors who have made this dream a reality. The new bus is crucial and will provide even more opportunities for all our students to be able to access off site activities, activities which play an integral part in our students’ learning and development.”
