Milestone Players back in the Spotlight

For the sixth consecutive year, students from Leigh Academy Milestone took part in the annual Coram Shakespeare Schools Festival, the world’s largest youth drama festival.

Every year, students present abridged, 30-minute versions of one of William Shakespeare’s plays. This year, the Milestone Players presented their adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, one of the Bard’s most famous comedies, at The Woodville in Gravesend.

The Festival gives our students the opportunity to perform on a professional stage, with full technical support, in front of a paying audience. We were proud to perform alongside Abbey Court School, and Leigh Academy Longfield; both schools produced exceptional performances and it was a privilege to share the stage with them.

In this video, one of our stars shares some reflections on what it means to be in the festival, and to be a performer. We think the video speaks volumes about the impact that drama, and the creative arts, can have on our young people.

We are pleased to say that several of our Shakespeare Schools Festival alumni have gone on to further education in drama and the performing arts.

A huge congratulations to all the stars – on stage and behind the scenes – of this year’s Festival.
