We know that navigating the transition to life beyond Milestone is challenging, as such we are continually developing how we can further support pupils and families with this transition.
This week, we hosted our first ever alumni coffee afternoon, inviting our current Year 12 and Year 13 families to join us for the opportunity to speak with past parents and carers who have been through the process of transitioning their young person to life after Milestone. Families were encouraged to ask questions and share advice and tips.
The group discussed the process of applying for Post-19 placements, as well as the alternative routes of further education and social care provision. The top tips from our expert panel of alumni families included:
- explore all the options as early as possible
- be confident that you know what will suit your young person best!
It was a wonderful event, full of interesting discussion and highlighted the power of shared experiences.
